Welcome
August 14, 2012
Dear Parents, Welcome to our fifth and sixth grade homeroom at Hoover Christian School. We have a very busy and exciting year in store for us!
Before I give you classroom details, let me first introduce myself. I am Mark Grice and this will be my tenth year teaching at Hoover Christian School. I also serve this school as the vice principal. I also have taught grades 1st through 8th in Texas and Tennessee and I consider myself very fortunate to be among such a professional, Christian faculty.
I realize that teaching your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience in the classroom. However, I cannot do this alone: I need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning process. I need each of you to encourage your child at home by helping to ensure that they have completed their assignments, and help them study for tests, if necessary. I will keep you informed of all assignments and subjects that are covered in class with a weekly schedule posted once a week on Mondays at www.hooverchristianschool.com This weekly schedule can change day to day depending on class progress. So communication with your student on upcoming tests is important. Grades will be determined by daily assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, and student participation. In most cases, time has been allotted in the classroom to complete most of the daily assignments. All daily assignments are due the next day before class begins. There will also be several projects and/or writing assignments throughout the year that require more time to complete; you will be informed of their due dates. In general retake tests are not given. Students must learn to study before tests are given, not after. By next Friday grades will start to be posted through Renweb. A letter from the office will inform you when this is activated with information about logging on and how to receive a password.
If you have any questions please call me before 7 pm or email anytime. Please if you call leave a message and I will get back with you as soon as I can. I do not use text messaging on my phone at this time.
From, Mr. Mark Grice
